Mission

In helping MCG Cancer Center to achieve its goal of becoming NIH designated comprehensive cancer center, the contribution of BBCB Core is essential. The Core’s Objectives are to provide:

  • Expertise for the planning, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials, epidemiologic and population based studies, studies in genetic susceptibility of cancer, and experiments in basic research in the biology of cancer

  • Advice and consultation to the MCG Quality Assurance Office for Clinical Trials (QACT) and the Office for Protection of Research Subjects (OPRS) in efficient and accurate database design and management of clinical research data

  • Scientific computing for data analysis and scientific graphics; and experimental designs including sample size and power calculation

  • Education for members of the CC in the areas of study design, data collection, computerization, and statistical methods for laboratory, clinical and population based studies

  • Methodological research in quantitative methods. The BBCB Core research component is a shared facility, which supports consultation on quantitative methods for all MCG CC members. The BBCB core investigators are expected to conduct independent  sponsored research in the areas of statistical  analysis and quantitative  methods and convey  the impact and potential benefits of the  novel methodologies  to CC investigators

Services & Fees

Specific services offered include assistance in analysis of Illumina Bead Studio microarray experiment data, microarray data expressions analysis and interpretation,  gene annotation and enrichment analysis; also in design of clinical trials, experimental design, power and sample size estimation, modeling, data analysis, interpretation and manuscript preparation. Consulting is provided by BBCB core members listed above.

Also BBCB core supports the research mission of all units of MCG Cancer Center by providing collaborative research support throughout all phases of grant proposal preparations and funded research, serving as co-investigators in the grants. Similar collaborative support is also provided to external researchers.

Procedures on getting BBCB core services:
  • The client will contact the BBCB core member whose expertise is ideal for the service, or contact Core Director or Core deputy Director if the client is unsure about whom to contact

  • The initial hour-long consultation is provided free of charge to all MCG cancer center investigators

  • After the initial consultation, a cost estimate is provided

  • A 50% surcharge is imposed for work needed within one week

  • Fees are billed directly to the investigator’s unit/department via invoice:

Cancer Center Investigators - $45 per hour   External Clients in MCG - $90 per hour

  • Grant preparation support is offered to MCG Cancer Center researchers free of charge, provided that BBCB core member assumes the role of co-investigator with funding request for significant percent efforts
